SEX THERAPY INTEGRATED WITH RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Couples often seek sex and/or relationship therapy when they are experiencing decrease in intimacy, increased conflict, or are under stress and the communication has broken down. This can make one feel lonely and disconnected from your partner.

All relationships require ongoing work especially when resentment, contempt, and anger have built up over time and is affecting other aspects of your life. Couple therapy allows individuals to recognize patterns of behavior, stresses in the relationship, and own responsibility for their respective contribution in creating emotional distance. A trusting environment is created where each person in the relationship learns to communicate their vulnerabilities and needs in a more effective manner leading to a healthier, more intimate and a mutually satisfying relationship.

EMDR- Trauma Work

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - is a psychological method for treating experientially based disorders and emotional difficulties that are caused by disturbing life experiences,
ranging from traumatic events such as combat stress, assaults, and natural disaster, to upsetting childhood
events. EMDR is a complex method that brings together elements from well-established clinical
theoretical orientations including psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and client-centered (Shapiro,
2001).

Substance Abuse

Therapy can help you work through any unresolved emotional problems that may be leading you to use drugs and alcohol, such as past trauma, abuse or grief. Unhealthy family dynamics could be addressed in addiction therapy as well.

Many people who use drugs and alcohol may also have co-occurring mental health disorders such as bipolar disorder, depression and/or anxiety.  A psychotherapist can help you identify, understand and manage these conditions. In some cases, a doctor may recommend medications, such antidepressants, as part of treatment.

When a therapeutic approach is customized to your unique situation while also addressing co-occurring social, psychiatric and medical problems, the result can be a sustained recovery and productive life free from substance abuse.
